The Waipa District is the self proclaimed 'home of Champions'. Champions of sport, business, entertainment, education and culture emerge from this district in abundance. In the Te Awamutu Museum 'Walk of Fame' education programme, students examine the identities that have been memorialised in this recent addition to the Te Awamutu landscape. Students then identify the qualities, or habits of mind, that these champions demonstrated on their road to success, notice any common themes and make connections to their own journey to success.
The contents of each programme are constructed around the learning intentions of the teacher, however in the past the Te Awamutu 'Walk of Fame' education programme has contained:
- Guided tour of the Te Awamutu Walk of Fame
- Hands-on team activities at the Te Awamutu Walk of Fame
- Presentations based around the qualities, or the habits of mind, that were/are demonstrated by the district's champions
- Presentations based on specific champions
- Video and film footage
- Related artifacts
Programmes usually last 90 minutes but we are flexible to suit the needs of the teacher and student.
