Fashion: The Way We Wore

Fashion: The Way We Wore

With over 1/3 of the Museum's collections consisting of textiles, we have the resources to develop flexible programmes based around your learning intentions.

Our education services specialise in:

  • Developing programmes that display textiles and accessories from pre 1840  to 1930
  • Creating interactive and engaging activities that help students to focus

The contents of each programme are constructed around the learning intentions of the teacher, however textile education programmes in the past have contained:

  • A varied collection of clothes, shoes and accesseries
  •  Local fashion related film and photographs
  • An interactive magnetic puzzle that focuses the students on the detail of the garments on display
  • Opportunities to record new design ideas inpired by the textiles on display
  • Team activities that challenge students to make their own fashion ensemble
  • A catwalk challenge

Programmes usually run for one and a half hours.

Recent teacher feedback from 'The Way We Wore' education programme.

  • Highlights: 'the magnet board exercise was fun and interactive. The students are still talking about it. I like that they had to really look deep into each garment or item.'
  • Programme: 'excellent, appropriate.'
  • Facilitator: 'GREAT! thanks Alan.'
