Uenuku's Homecoming

Uenuku's Homecoming

Dr Tui Adams was one of the tohunga for the closing of Te Māori at Chicago in 1984. In this image he can be seen welcoming Uenuku back to Te Awamutu Museum at the end of Te Hokinga Mai (the New Zealand tour), standing behind Te Arikinui Dame Te Atairangikahu and Henare Tuwhangai.

On hearing about this web page being developed to mark the anniversary of Te Māori, matua Tui commented “it is an exciting time, tinged with some sadness. My information is that I am the sole survivor of the group that performed the closing ceremony at Chicago”. Sadly he himself passed away on 22 August 2009.

Ki ngā mate o te wā, moe mai rā koutou katoa.

Pai marire ki a koutou.
