Te Awamutu Museum was established as a result of the efforts of volunteers.

Today volunteers assist Museum staff in their work in areas including archives, collections and museum administration, forming an integral part of the life of the Museum.

The Museum has an exciting year ahead with upcoming exhibitions, talks and workshops planned, and much work goes on behind the scenes. Therefore we see volunteering as a two-way partnership enabling the Museum to achieve its goals more successfully, while providing an enriching experience for the volunteer.

Why Volunteer?

As a volunteer you will have the opportunity to use your skills while furthering your knowledge through ongoing training and support, as well as receive invitations to Museum functions and special exhibitions.

Some of the projects you may be involved in include using your journalistic skills to produce a regular electronic Newsletter that will be posted on our Museum website and can be sent to other websites. Or if your interests are with the collections of the Museum, you may be involved in inventory, updating records, taking digital photographs, cleaning and repacking collection objects or archival material.

If you are over 16 and interested in finding out more about becoming a volunteer, contact us at the Museum or email us an enquiry form.
