Introduction Museum

Te Awamutu Museum was established in 1935, and is the oldest museum in the Waikato region.


Dressmakers display

The museum collects material that relates to the history, society, culture and development of Te Awamutu and the wider Waipa region. The collection includes objects, photographs, maps, taonga Maori and archival material. An approved archival repository since 1956, Te Awamutu Museum houses the largest collection of documented Maori and European archival material in the Waikato.

' To celebrate our unique identity by collecting, preserving and promoting the cultural and social history of Te Awamutu and the wider Waipa region through a diverse and dynamic range of exhibitions, programmes and research. '
