100 years in print

In 2011 our community newspaper celebrated a century of publishing district news. For 25 years it was called “The Waipa Post” before being re-named “Te Awamutu Courier”.

This exhibition features the story of the Courier from its beginnings as a family business.

Symbols of service: military medals from the museum collection

This exhibition presents medals from Te Awamutu Museum collection along with stories of the people they were awarded to.

Many are campaign medals signifying that the recipient served at a particular time; some are gallantry & bravery awards for specific actions.

All of these medals signify extraordinary dedication to their country by ordinary people.

Submerged Histories

Submerged Histories: stories underlying Lake Karapiro

In 1947, layers of history disappeared beneath the water's surface of the newly formed Lake Karapiro. Life changed radically for the people whose lives were defined by the waterway.

See this fascinating exhibition of historical photographs lovingly preserved by those who worked and lived along the stretch of the Waikato River now known as Lake Karapiro.

Te Maori 1984 - 2009

In 1984 the exhibition Te Maori left New Zealand on a tour of the USA.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the exhibition we published contributions from people who were directly involved with the exhibition and tour.

We appreciate all of the contributions to this commemorative project.
