Military Campaigns of the Waikato

Armed Constabulary, Orakau Blockhouse, 1870

Our Military Campaigns of the Waikato programme has been designed to meet the needs of intermediate and secondary schools in the Social Studies curriculum.

The topic revolves around a detailed tour of the sites associated with the Waikato Wars, including St John's Anglican Church, Rangioawhia and Orakau. For teachers wanting an indepth programme, we can include a lesson at the museum, where students can visit our New Zealand Wars gallery and watch the historic film Rewi's Last Stand, an account of the battle of Orakau.

To ensure that we can provide the best service possible, there is a charge for guided site tours - please contact our Museum Education Facilitator Alan Reilly for further information: Phone 07 872 0085 or by email at alan.reilly@waipadc.govt.nz
