Te Awamutu Museum was established in 1935 and is the earliest museum in the Waikato region. The Museum collects material that relates to the history, society, culture and development of Te Awamutu and the wider Waipa region.

The Museum's collection comprises some 17,000 items, including over 8000 objects. We care for an extensive taonga Maori collection, a significant NZ Wars and colonial period collection, and a natural history collection.

Archives

Te Awamutu Museum houses the oldest collection of documented Maori and European archival material in the Waikato. The archives collection is well used by researchers of local social and family history.
