Where is the Museum?

Is there an admission fee?

Entry to the Museum is by koha or donation.

When is the Museum open?

We are open 10am-4pm weekdays, 10am-1pm Saturdays and 1pm-4pm Sundays and public holidays.

What can I see at the Museum?

Te Awamutu Museum tells the unique stories of the Waipa through exhibitions and programmes. Our permanent exhibitions include New Zealand Wars, True Colours and the Tangata Whenua gallery. See our Exhibitions page for more details.

Do you run programmes for children or adults?

The Museum regularly runs programmes and workshops for both adults and children. We run programmes during the school holidays which change regularly.

I'd like a copy of a photo I saw once - how do I do that?

Please contact the Archivist to order images.

I'd like to bring a tour group through - do I need a booking?

A booking is not strictly required but it may be useful to ring ahead with your plans in case we have a school group visiting at the same time.

I'd like to find something in an old newspaper - does the Museum have them?

Yes we hold early editions of local newspapers and these are available for viewing. Please contact the Archivist to make an appointment.

Can I donate some items to the Museum?

Before we accept items from the public we need to ensure that they fit within our collection policy and that we have the capacity to store and care for them. Please contact us with a description of the material.
